At NEMC, students design an individualized schedule of classes and recreation to meet their interests and personal needs. Our professional faculty-to-student ratio gives campers many opportunities for daily coaching and side-by-side instruction. Every student receives two half-hour private lessons each week with the option to add more. New England Music Camp is proud to announce the addition of Dr. They will be joining current conductors Michael McCarthy second session chorale and Chris Burkhart first session concert band in these respective roles. Michael has been on the faculty as a conductor and instructor for almost 30 years, and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this new, year-round position. He will work with Music Director Bill Tortolano and the camp administration to prepare and revise academic program plans, and develop strategies to achieve the goals and objectives of those programs. Additionally, he will assist in the articulation of policies and procedures of the music education programs at NEMC.

Music Camp is an excellent opportunity for any young musician to improve his or her skills, both individually and as part of a group. Some camps are a bit exclusive and require an audition beforehand to get in. Others are open to everyone and have an audition once the camp has started, just to see which level of classes the student should be in depending on age and ability. In general, summer music camps are run by university music students and young music professionals. Sometimes students will get the chance to practice and work with well known orchestras and symphonies. There are music camps that also hold programs for specific genres of music, such as jazz, bluegrass and rock and roll.
