The game was first seen on May 11, when a low-resolution cell-phone picture of an upcoming issue of CoroCoro magazine was leaked around the internet. On May 15, the magazine was officially released and the game was also officially confirmed by Nintendo. Like previous third versions, the region and starting area remain the same as in previously released paired versions; in Platinum, the player begins their journey from Twinleaf Town and travels across all of Sinnoh. When the game begins, the player is watching a newscast about Professor Rowan 's return to Sinnoh. However, Rowan sees them and reprimands them for endangering themselves. His assistant Lucas or Dawn , depending on the player's gender comes along, and Rowan lets the player and Barry each choose among a Turtwig , Piplup , or Chimchar. After the battle, the two head to Lake Verity , where they meet Cyrus.

This is the first entry, with more to come over the next week. Be warned — there are some mild story spoilers in this entry, as most of the songs are discussed. In short — a lot of hits, but some misses too. There are some banging new tracks, and some lesser ones that are easily forgotten, partly down to a repeated trend in making themes simply too busy. We have a variety of styles, such as the slow surf rock style of Turffield Town, or the Tournament Lobby theme featuring techno music styles.
While it only had one form in Diamond and Pearl , it is given a new alternate form alongside a new area called the Distortion World, which features altered physics from the normal land of Sinnoh , where the game takes place. Players explore a large area, which ranges from mountains to bodies of water, grasslands, populated areas, and snowy expanses. It was the fastest-selling game in Japan at the time, and had sold 7. Its basic mechanics are the same as those found in Diamond and Pearl. Fleeing is not an option during battles against trainers. It features simple applications such as a calculator, map, counter, and drawing pad. Platinum also features the Underground mode, where players can dig for spheres and Fossils. Platinum also introduces the Vs. Recorder, which allows players to record battles held in the Battle Frontier or on Wi-Fi.
